Fair Use Policy (FUP)

Last Updated: April 5, 2026

1. Introduction

At GreatHost, we strive to provide exceptional performance to all our customers. To ensure that all users enjoy a smooth and stable experience, we apply this Fair Use Policy (FUP). Since our services operate on a high-performance shared resource infrastructure, abuse by a single user can negatively impact others.

The use of our services implies acceptance of these additional terms to our general Terms and Conditions.

2. VPS Servers (Virtual Private Servers)

Our VPS servers are designed for a variety of workloads, but to maintain the stability of the main node, the following restrictions apply:

  • CPU Limit: Constant and sustained CPU usage must not exceed 5 cores (or the equivalent of 100% of 5 processing threads) for periods exceeding 2 hours. Occasional spikes of higher usage are permitted, but constant intensive use may result in temporary performance throttling.
  • Cryptocurrency Mining: Any cryptocurrency mining activity (CPU or GPU) on our servers is strictly prohibited. This causes premature hardware wear and unacceptable resource saturation.
  • Encoding and Rendering: The use of VPS for massive video encoding or constant 3D rendering tasks must be pre-notified or performed on dedicated plans to avoid affecting other users on the same node.

3. Game Servers

Our game servers are optimized to offer the lowest possible latency. To ensure this:

  • Bandwidth: We do not impose strict monthly data transfer limits ("unlimited bandwidth"), but usage must be reasonable. Using a game server as a CDN, massive file storage, or download server is prohibited.
  • Internet Usage: Network traffic must be exclusively for the operation of the game and its plugins/mods. Any activity involving massive packet sending or network attacks from the server will result in immediate suspension.
  • Plugins and Mods: The user is responsible for optimizing their plugins. If a server causes an excessive and unjustified load on the node due to poor configurations or malicious plugins, the user will be notified to take action or resources will be temporarily limited.

4. Network and Connectivity

GreatHost's network is a high-speed shared resource. The following are prohibited:

  • DDoS Attacks: Using our services to perform or participate in Denial of Service (DoS or DDoS) attacks.
  • Port Scanning: Unauthorized scanning of external or internal networks.
  • Network Saturation: Constant use of the network port at 100% capacity for long periods (e.g., for unauthorized high-bitrate streaming or intensive P2P traffic).

5. NVMe SSD Storage

Our NVMe drives are extremely fast, but abuse of input/output (I/O) operations can affect others:

  • I/O Usage: Software that generates constant massive read/write operations without justification (e.g., extremely heavy unindexed databases or infinite debug mode logs) is not allowed.
  • Backups: We recommend using our integrated backup tools instead of external systems that saturate the disk during peak hours.

6. Monitoring and Consequences

GreatHost automatically monitors resource usage to detect anomalies. If excessive use violating this policy is detected:

  1. Notice: In most cases, a notice will be sent via email or support ticket.
  2. Throttling: If abuse persists, we may temporarily limit CPU or bandwidth access for the affected service.
  3. Suspension: In serious cases of intentional abuse or illegal activities, the service will be suspended without prior notice.
